SK Hynix is a South Korean memory semiconductor design and manufacturer and the world's second-largest RAM and NAND flash manufacturer. It was established as Korea Semiconductor Industry in 1983 and was acquired by SK Group in 1999. The headquarters are located in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do, and factories are also located in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, Chongqing, China, and Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.

1. History of SK Hynix

SK Hynix was established in 1983 as a semiconductor industry in Korea. In 1984, the world's first 64K DRAM was developed, and in 1986, the world's first 256K DRAM was developed. In 1996, it surpassed 1 trillion won in sales and was acquired by SK Group in 1999. In 2002, the world's first 1 Gbit DRAM was developed, and in 2004, the world's first 2 Gbit DRAM was developed. In 2006, it surpassed 10 trillion won in sales, and in 2007, it developed the world's first 4Gbit DRAM. In 2008, it developed the world's first 8Gbit DRAM, and in 2010, it surpassed 20 trillion won in sales. In 2012, we developed the world's first 16 Gbit DRAM, and in 2013, we developed the world's first 32 Gbit DRAM. In 2015, sales exceeded 30 trillion won, and in 2016, we developed the world's first 64 Gbit DRAM. In 2017, it developed the world's first 128 Gbit DRAM, and in 2018, it surpassed 40 trillion won in sales. In 2019, the world's first 256 Gbit DRAM was developed, and in 2020, sales exceeded 50 trillion won. In 2021, we developed the world's first 512 Gbit DRAM.

2. CEO of SK Hynix

Kwak Noh-jung, CEO of SK Hynix, was born in 1961 and graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Materials Engineering and received a master's degree in Material Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in the United States. He joined Hyundai Electronics in 1983 and worked in the semiconductor industry for more than 30 years. At SK Hynix, he served as executive director of Cheongju Fab, vice president of manufacturing and technology, and president of the Institute of Future Technology. In March 2022, he was appointed as CEO of SK Hynix. President Kwak Noh-jung is leading SK Hynix's 'Deep Change' strategy. 'Deep Change' is a strategy that SK Hynix is pursuing to respond to changes in the semiconductor industry. "Deep Change" includes technological innovation, manufacturing innovation, and management innovation, and President Kwak Noh-jung aims to make SK Hynix the world's best memory semiconductor company through "Deep Change."

3. SK Hynix's Future

SK Hynix is the world's third-largest company in the memory semiconductor market, gaining a competitive advantage through continuous investment in technological innovation and manufacturing innovation. It is also actively exploring new markets, so future growth is expected. Memory semiconductors are semiconductors used in various electronic products such as computers, smartphones, and tablets, and demand is increasing worldwide. SK Hynix is expanding its production capacity and investing in developing new products in line with the growth of the memory semiconductor market. SK Hynix recently announced its plan to enter the automotive semiconductor market.
